The recent development in the tolerance allocation in machine components have undergone significant changes in the last few years, and these changes may provide new opportunities for getting more profit and to use modern techniques with no compromise in the standard quality. Though there are so many techniques and procedures to maintain quality and to improve quality Tolerance allocation is an effective tool to allocate the tolerances for the components in the assembly without affecting the functional requirements with the minimum machining cost. It requires the information about individual parts production characteristics, including material cost, production cost and mean shift. Traditionally tolerance allocation in an assembly is obtained by trial and error method. A more scientific approach is often desirable for better performance. In this work, tolerance design optimization of machine elements is taken for analysis. This single objective, non-linear and constrained problem is solved with the new non-conventional technique called Genetic Algorithm (GA).
